Education in Geography

It's About Places

I am a professional geographer, who combines research skills with presentation skills. My 17 years as a researcher and my 16 years as a writer and photographer are both aspects of this. Indeed, my writing and photography have allowed me to continue and expand my interest in research.

Here are the details about my degrees in Geography:

  • Master of Science in Geography, The Pennsylvania State University, 1982. Graduate studies emphasized urban structure, with coursework in demographics and migration, urban social geography, quantitative methods, and landscape analysis. Graduate papers were on the quantitative analysis of urban structural change from a land economic standpoint; and on the use of controlled experiments in urban government programs that are distributed over space.
  • Bachelor of Science in Geography, Mathematics Minor, Western Carolina University, summa cum laude, 1975. Studies concentrated on spatial analysis, and included urban planning and planning law, urban geography, quantitative methods, mathematical statistics and calculus, cartography, environmental geology, hydrology, and geomorphology.
