When you acquire my services, you gain access to a set of complementary skills that combine applied research with writing and photography — with computer skills and digital imaging thrown in.
Researcher: My 17 years as a professional researcher and statistician, head of a local government department, have given me a repitoire of research skills, from advanced statistical analysis to knowing just where to dig for that important fact. I've also learned how to work with a range of people, from members of the public and reporters (I gave frequent press interviews), to agency heads and cops on the beat. When you do serious research you need to deal with people as well as books.
Digital Imaging: It's not the camera — it's the total system of digital image management: capture, adjustment, indexing, storage, and publishing. I've been doing this for a living for quite some time now, and I'm good at it.
Computer Skills: There's more to computers than digital imaging! As part of the freelance business I've run since 1994, I've developed a computer system for complex document creation, web site management, and image indexing and management. (This web site is a product of that system.) My point: no computer program exists that can confuse or befuddle me. Whatever you use, whatever your needs, I'll be ready.
Education: My MS and BS degrees in Geography give me insight into the nature of places, and how to depict them to your target audience. I specialized in understanding landscapes in their historic and social contexts, and in geographically distributed statistics. I consider myself a geographer who combines expertise in research and presentation.
